Please find below a report of the activities undertaken for the Flight of the Earls Project.

We have reformatted the home page of www.donegaldirect.com and revised the menu to prioritise the Flight of the Earls project.

Much content was sourced and entered into the database with the help of Harriet Purkiss (ERNACT FOE Project Manager). This is content, images and GPS Coordinates relating to the locations the Earls visited during their journeys.

6 new sections have bee added to the site.

1. A category has been created defining ‘Places of Interest’ these are generally Attractions that are on the Donegal Section of the Earls Routes.

2. A separate Flight of the Earls Events Category was created and Events entered from various sources including the www.flightoftheearls.ie website. A page was created that displays only these events.

3. 3 x GPS Maps were created for the three routes – Slane to Lifford, Donegal Town to Lifford, Rathmullan to Rome. Attractions were mapped onto the routes making them visible to a viewer when they ‘click on a pin’ (Note this was the longest part of the project as a sample problem, creating a ‘route’ on a GPS map necessitated a wholesale move from Mircrosoft to Google Virtual Earth.

4. A Category was created in the Booking Engine for Flight of the Earls ‘Packages’. A page was created to display the packages.

5. A section for History was built and content taken mainly from www.flightsoftheearls.ie

6. A section for News was built and content taken mainly from www.flightoftheearls.ie

Mobile Phones

For this project we have taken the step forward of displaying some key Flight of the Earls data on mobile phones, making it accessable to visitors from around the world.

Suggestion

It may be helpful for someone from the FOE Project to review the content and supply any missing details.

It would also be good for the hotel to start creating FOE Packages.
